True Freedom

Freedom comes in all shapes and sizes.

And for Mitchell Rutledge, this rings true. He finds himself behind bars, but totally free.

Mitch grew up, essentially an orphan who had to learn how to fend for himself. He got involved in the wrong crowds from an early age and got involved with drugs and ended up murdering someone. He found himself on death row facing the death penalty in Alabama. This is where Burton and Anita Folsom enter the picture.

In their book, Death on Hold, the Folsoms relate their story through the lens of Mitchell. He speaks candidly about life in prison which led to his redemption, spiritually speaking. Burton and Anita Folsom interject their story throughout the book as well.

This book shines the truth on the life-changing Gospel as well as what love can do for one person who has never experienced it. Mitchell never knew anyone who loved him. He was uneducated and was seen as a retard. All because no one took time to invest in his life. Although he remains behind bars, he was able to have his sentence reduced and lives his life for Christ each and every day.

This book will push you to love. It is a powerful thing. Ultimately, Christ's love is what makes the difference. We have such an incredible responsibility to be a mirror of that love to a lost and dying world.

P.S. I received a free copy of this book as part of the Booklook Blogging Network.

What If???

we no longer had the written Word of God at our disposal?

we were banned from loudly proclaiming the Good News?

there was no possibility to hear preaching that encouraged?

As my sister and I were reciting our weekly Bible memory work to each other today, these questions surfaced. We have finished the first 3 chapters of James, and as we reviewed the second chapter today, which is a tongue twister....lots of faiths and works....she reminded me that the reason we do this is to get the Word in our mind, not to get all the wording just so.

For if we did have all our freedoms stripped, we would still have the "Word implanted, which is able to save our souls."

Bible Memory can seem tedious at times, but is so important to renewing our mind.

What are you memorizing? If not anything, I encourage you to do so.

Everything's Free!

Do you want to know the quickest way to get rid of your garage sale items? I've never finished a garage sale by 9:30 in the morning, but today was the day for firsts.

The Puebla Ponderosa had a garage sale today. Normally, there are people that come out in the early morning dusk with flashlights. Today, no one came early. I was very disappointed and frustrated. After all, there is so much work to putting together and garage sale. Around 8:00 a.m., my darling husband made the decision that the Lord wanted us to have a FREE sale. My initial reaction was one of, "Are you serious?" "We have to a least make a little money to cover the add in the paper!!" After I calmed down, "Mr. Cartwright" said he was going to get his tracts in Spanish and English out and use this FREE sale as a means of evangelism. This he did. Most people had an astonished reaction to his offer. "We have never seen anyone do this before!" There were people that opened up and shared their hurts. There were people who listened. I know the Lord used this day to touch people as well as to start to heal a hurt in "Mr. Cartwright" that he has been fighting since "Hoss" had to leave. (See September previous posts) But I know the Lord used this in my life too. I am a very task oriented person and easily lose my focus to reach out in the midst of my tasks.
