Sacred Marriage - Book Review

Marriages are being fought for on the battle lines of our culture war. And sometimes marriage can seem a battle itself.

Gary Thomas, in his book, Sacred Marriage, asks many thought provoking ideas; the most important being that the ultimate purpose of marriage is "to equip you to love your God more and to help you reflect the character of His Son more precisely." This thought will eternally change your view on all aspects of marriage; from conflict resolution and divorce to how to love better and better every day.

Mr. Thomas quickly gets to the heart of every person's motives and objectives as he takes the reader back to the Gospel and how our marriages are about displaying the glory of God. He delves into the difficulties all marriages have in fighting self, because that really is one of the key to holiness and happiness.

Every single marriage can benefit from this book, no matter how bad or good you may see your own as. Gary Thomas gets right down to nitty-gritty.

Marriage is for the glory of God. It will make you cry, laugh, and definitely ponder what you can do to do this thing called marriage better. With the help of Christ.

Our Battle

Warfare. This word conjures up many different things in my mind. But today, I am meditating on Ephesians 6:12.


"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood; but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places."


I don't know about you, but many of the conflicts in my life with things and people, I can react so emotionally. I can easily take a situation and tie the burden on my back and take it all very personally. And at times, this is necessary to do. But some times I need to take a step back and realize that as a believer, the struggles, trials, conflicts and seemingly impossible things are backed by the prince of the power of the air. 


I guess I must, at this point, remind you that I do believe people are responsible for their actions and my Jesus is so much more powerful than these spiritual forces, But when some one sins against me, it helps to readjust my thinking to embrace the fact that the devil wants to destroy families, spiritual relationships and anything that has the imprint of the Master of the Universe. 


For example, if my husband and I are having an intense conflict and trying to resolve it, it is in my best interest to remember that satan wants us to fail. He wants us to grow apart. He wants us to NOT work things out. Because then, you see, the glory of God in our testimony is ruined. The world sees nothing different than what is all around us; the focus is taken off the Jesus in our lives and put on our own needs.


No matter what you are facing, remember with God all things are possible. He wants the glory. Satan wants to derail us and send us in the wrong direction.


So fight on, friends, with the Holy Spirit reminding you each step of the way that God's glory is at stake.

A Gift For Dad

Many of you know my dear Mother went home to be with the Lord this past spring. So many emotions have accompanied me throughout the recent months. I am still missing her, yet time does ease some of the pain. There are so many days that I still want to call her and talk to her. The tears have inched their way further from my lids, and when they come they aren't daily anymore.


I still have the gift of my Father, and am so thankful he is alive and well. Seeing him alone and wanting companionship caused a different sort of pain inside me.


So, our Gracious God has provided him a friend, companion and as of today, new wife.


Many people hear this news and their eyebrows go up in questioning...and if I could read their minds, I might hear, "Wow, so soon?" or " That is too fast!" But I am so happy for my dad. Lord willing, he has many more years of serving his Savior and what better way than with someone the Lord has supplied as a friend and fellow slave in Christ. No one will ever take the place of my dear mom, but it is a blessing to have a new friend and older Godly woman in my life.
