Taking Every Thought Captive

Despite what the specific trial is in my life or yours, my greatest struggle through each painful journey is taking every thought captive. The enemy seeks to destroy through vain imaginations...

but God says,

~ "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." Philippians 4:8

~ "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

~ "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:1-2

~ "I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip - he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you - the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm - he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore." Psalm 121

When the sun goes down, and as my head lays down each night, I fight my own thoughts. I have sought to dwell on these verses to keep the night watches from entertaining those things which cannot edify. For I know my God does not sleep, and
He keeps watch over my soul.

I am laughing because I've writtne a post for tomorrow (WFW) based on a couple of these verses. We are like-minded this week!

This post made me think of Psalm 3. I find great comfort when I pray this Psalm at night.

Yes, taking every thought captive is a major struggle for me, as well. One of the things my husband and I do just before bed, aside from regular prayer and Bible reading, is pray the office of compline, which is a wonderful goodnight prayer / conversation with God. How important it is to dwell upon His Word, all the time, but YES YES YES, definitely as we prepare for sleep. Thanks for sharing.
